Kerry’s Brand New Plan
No one is really sure if this is version 4.5.06 or just 10.10.04 in a new package, or the Murtha NT edition 11.17.05, but like all of Kerry’s plans, there are some serious security holes.
“Now we must set another deadline to extricate our troops and get Iraq up on its own two feet.
“Iraqi politicians should be told that they have until May 15 to put together an effective unity government or we will immediately withdraw our military. If Iraqis aren’t willing to build a unity government in the five months since the election, they’re probably not willing to build one at all. The civil war will only get worse, and we will have no choice anyway but to leave.”
Of course, any smart Iraqi who reads the NYT would say, “But. Senator Kerry, you say your own government is ineffective which is why you ran for President, but lost, to the people you say are ineffective.”
Kerry’s plan also ignores the obvious: Not every Iraqi politician wants an effective government in Iraq, a few want sectarian violence and a break up of the country into three republics and the Al Qaida types still hanging around would love to have a jihad for all starting May 15.
If all they have to do is filibuster for 40 days, well, get out the chocolate milk and a Koran and let the filibuster begin!
That is unless of course someone decides for a literally Nuclear option.
Kerry also call for the coalition to:
“…finally begin to engage in genuine diplomacy. We must immediately bring the leaders of the Iraqi factions together at a Dayton Accords-like summit meeting. In a neutral setting, Iraqis, working with our allies, the Arab League and the United Nations, would be compelled to reach a political agreement that includes security guarantees, the dismantling of the militias and shared goals for reconstruction.”
Uh, Senator, even after Dayton, Bosnia was a mess and it took four more years to resolve the Kosovo battles. So Dayton isn’t exactly the model of perfection.
I guess we could call it the Darfur/Rwanda/Kosovo plan–stand by and watch genocide, civil war and the creation of a safe haven for Al Qaida. Brilliant Senator.
Oh, and by the way, we still have troops in Bosnia.
As for the rest of Kerry’s plan, refer to the instruction manual in the Murtha NT 11.17.05 edition of the plan.

And just think, we were only one state away from this guy having been elected president. My head spins at the thought.
