Why Only Conservative Bloggers?
By JD Johannes
Michael Yon, Michael Totten, Bill Roggio, and, yours truly, have all spent considerable time in Iraq.
Yon was with the Duece Four in Mosul.
Roggio with the Marines in Al Anbar.
Totten globe trots solo and went solo into the Kurdish areas.
I was with the Marines around Fallujah.
Another was Steven Vincent, who blogged and wrote for National Review, traveled solo around Iraq. Vincent was murdered–not killed in random violence–murdered by the enemy.
What do all of have in common? We hail from the conservative side of the blogosphere. While we may not all be conservatives or even Republicans, we can generally be lumped in with the Right side of the sphere.
It finally struck me that the only non-military, independent bloggers who have actually been to Iraq tend to come from the right when I read this Glenn Greenwald piece (via Instapundit, via Hewitt).
I found my way to Iraq with my old Marine Corps unit.
I put together a demo, showed it to a slew of TV stations and inked syndication deals for news reports.
It helped that I had previously worked in television news and knew what I was doing with a 3CCD camera.
Then I was off to Iraq.
Surely there are a few adventurous bloggers in the liberal end of the sphere who could talk the Nation or New Republic into credentialing them and head to Iraq for a 30-day adventure?
If there is a liberal blogger running around Iraq, I’m sure Mr. Greenwald will point him or her out to us. At which point I will retract this article.
