Mordant Observations

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

It’s frustrating to discipline your home-boys.  Iraq Body Count – IBC – is the gold standard of anti-war research.  Its careful compilations of military, civilian, and contractor casualties in Iraq are used by anti-war activists the world over.

We at DD use them too – not because we agree with their looney-left politics, but because their methodology is honest and consistent.  It can therefore be used to attack their politics.

A Mixed Success

Friday, September 1st, 2006

Baghdad’s sharp July spike in civilian deaths prompted two major responses from the elected Iraqi government and its coalition allies.  One was Operation Forward Together, an intensive “clear and hold” operation in Baghdad’s most violent neighborhoods.  The other was an Iraqi army initiative to defang Shi’ite militias south of Baghdad.

Only Certain News

Monday, August 28th, 2006

Last we looked at a Poll of Iraqis who actually live in Iraq.

The Iraqi news media’s effect on the poll was obvious in one question.

Who Is Azzam Tamimi?

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

Yesterday we reported on NBC passing off UK Islamic firebrand Azzam Tamimi as a scholar hoping fewer muslim youth would take up armed jihad.

We also provided links to several of Tamimi’s speeches.

To show just how stupid/blatant/biased (take your pick) NBC is, we just Googled “Azzam Tamimi” and here is what we found.

NBC Gives Terrorist Sympathizer Megaphone

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

One of the most common frauds perpetuated by the Legacy Media is passing off a radical as mainstream or respectable expert.

NBC tried it last night.

The NBC Nightly news gave terrorist apologist and jihadist inflamer Azzam Tamimi a mega-phone to spin his views.

Sectarian Violence?

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

I’ll be the first one to make this bit of speculation…how much of the Shia on Sunni killing or vice-versa is actually related to sect?

In this NBC report, as in others, nearly all the violence is reported to be sectarian.

NBC: Don’t Bother Us With The Facts

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

NBC News, as is typical with most media, played the debate over troop reductions in Iraq as a “He said–She said” without even checking what they said.

What is the Sound of one AK firing?

Friday, June 9th, 2006

NBC’s Richard Engle makes much of a fisherman who goes about his business despite gunfire “100 yards away.”

Zarqawi’s Toll

Wednesday, June 7th, 2006

“They were orphaned overnight two years ago when gunmen broke into their home and executed their parents,” reported NBC’s man in Baghdad, Richard Engel.

Investors: Zarqawi Needs to Bolster his Jihad Credentials

Wednesday, April 5th, 2006

Coming on the heels of the month with some of the lowest U.S. military fatalities in Iraq and a civil war that didn’t get off the ground, investors in Zarqawi’s Al Qaida in Iraq are looking for a turn around.

Al Qaida in Iraq is owned by the Hedge Fund Jihad Inc. which owns a majority of the shares.

Last week, Jihad shareholders shook up Al Qaida in Iraq’s upper managment, promoting Abdullah bin Rashed al-Baghdadi to CEO.

Zarqawi will stay on as Vice President of Jihad operations.
